Hazel took two comics classes taught by Professor Lynda Barry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

For the first class, she wrote and illustrated “Flaky the Snow Cat,” a holiday comic about a lonely kitten who runs away to the North Pole to ask Santa Paws for a friend.

For the second class, she wrote and illustrated “Hydrated Tourist Penguin Goes to Paris!” “Hydrated Tourist Penguin” is a recurring character in her work, and his “Paris” adventure explores the story of how he met his beloved water bottle, Leaky.

In April 2016, Hazel’s book proposal was selected by James Patterson as a top-three finalist for his first MasterClass Co-Author Competition.

Hazel is currently developing an early chapter book series.
