Sábagato Entremiao con El Candigato Morris

¡Buenos días, todos!

Hey, everyone!

Today we have a very special interview with el Candigato Morris, the cat who ran for mayor of Xalapa, Mexico in 2013. He received between 7,000 and 9,000 votes, which put him in 4th place in a race among 8 candidates. Right now he continues his political career and just lent me some of his time for a lovely chat which I very much appreciate! You can read below, Spanish or English or however you prefer. Sorry for any translation errors, I just had my four-month birthday 😉

Hazel: Hi Morris, thanks so much for being here today. What advice do you have for bright young kittens considering political career?

Morris: The advice I would give to other kittens is to be honest and brave in order to denounce the errors of human politics. Cats have always been curious and like to investigate everything. Therefore, I ask you to watch and always be aware of what is happening in your city, both good and bad, and from there begins the action. Cats and human citizens can make a difference; Another tip is, of course, always have the clean fur and claws, as cats have natural qualities to be politicians and should be an example for all.

Hazel: Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?

Morris: Mayor Stubbs was my greatest inspiration during my last campaign. It was an honor to have his support. All my appreciation goes to him and his administrators. As for humans, there are many people I can learn from, like Obama and his political campaigning through social networks, which was the main feature of my campaign, but also people like Nelson Mandela inspire me. He was an example of struggle and perseverance despite the difficulties.

Hazel: What are some favorite books, movies, plays, and/or TV shows?

Morris: One of my favorite authors recently is José Saramago, I have read Cain, an essay on lucidity (which had much to do with the last election in my country). The Gospel According to Jesus…I also like the classics, Don Quixote by Cervantes, and The Metamorphosis by Kafka, and Moliere. For film, I like Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas and Back to the Future

Hazel: How do you feel about the rise of feline political power, and how do you see that power shaping the world in the future?

Morris: Feline power reflects that the people are tiring of being mismanaged by other humans, and they are ready to be governed by us, since they are realizing we are natural leaders and we are cuter than politicians sleeping and doing nothing.

Hazel: ¿Con quién le gustaría cenar? ¿Qué comerán y dónde?

Hazel: Who would you love to have dinner with? What would you eat and where?

Morris: I would like to eat with Mayor Stubbs and ask him for political advice. I would also like to meet Tama, the cat who is a celebrity in Japan and I would like to travel with her in her train wagon.

Hazel: What are some problems you have noticed in your political world?

Morris: In Mexico, the political campaigns are a simulation. The governments buys the electoral bodies tasked with monitoring political campaigns, including opposing political parties, where they can pick candidates who are going to lose (in Mexico we call them “troupe candidates”) so that candidates from the official party take power.

Hazel: If you could say only one thing to a potential new or existing follower, what would you like them to know?

Morris: ¡Miau!

Morris: Meow!

Hazel: Thanks so much for your time today, Mr. Morris. Hugz!

Thanks for reading!

¡Hasta pronto!

See you soon!

Caturday Intermew with Cat Food Breath!

Happy Caturday!!

I am SO EXCITED for today’s intermew with one of my purrsonal kitty heroes, CAT FOOD BREATH! He is pawmazing.

Cat Food Breath

Hazel: Hi Mr. Breath! I hope you are doing well. First question I’d like to ask: What advice do you have for bright young kittens just starting on their social media presence?
Cat Food Breath: Share the wealth.  Not only am I generous with my cat fur, I take time to remind people that shelter cats rock.  I often talk about how wonderful my shelter was, and how grateful I am that they connected me with Thing One.  While it is all about the cat, we are obliged to use our fame and talent to assist others.
(Check out Cat Food Breath’s shelter! http://www.chittendenhumane.org/)

Hazel: I agree! Who knows how many cat authors, presidents, scientists, and role models are waiting to be rescued!  Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?

Cat Food Breath: Why, me,  Of course.  I am awesome.  Who wouldn’t be inspired by me?

Hazel: I sure am! What are some favorite books, movies, plays, and/or TV shows?

Cat Food Breath: I am fond of squishy books and magazines.  These are the best padding for a good nap surface.  I enjoy athletic events on television, so I can work on my fitness while I nap through the broadcast.
Hazel: Check out “First-Degree Fudge” by Christine DeSmet. They don’t have sushi fudge yet, but it’s a nice, soft book to snuggle with and reminds me of food. Speaking of which, who would you love to have dinner with? What would you eat and where?
Cat Food Breath: Jiro Ono.  I’d like him to serve me dinner at his restaurant, then we could move along to an all-you-can-eat buffet with shrimp and sardines.

Hazel: Ask him if they have sushi fudge! What are some mistakes that have shaped your worldview and/or approach to social media?
Cat Food Breath: Mistakes?  I am a CAT.  Kitties do not make mistakes.
Hazel: I still don’t know what mistakes are, maybe it’s just a human thing. How do you feel about the rise of feline influence, and how do you see that influence shaping the world in the future?
Cat Food Breath: This is no surprise.  Cats are smart, cute, and tech-savvy.  Of course we would take over the internet like we took over our own homes.  I can’t tell you much about how feline influence will impact the world, as that is Secret Cat Stuff.  You get that information on a need-to-know basis.  If you aren’t a cat, you don’t need to know.
Hazel: I have a question about that, but I’ll ask you at the thing we aren’t going to at night (wink wink). So just one last question:
If you could say only one thing to a potential new or existing follower, what would you like them to know?
Cat Food Breath: I have a nice, free dog available.  It comes with a vacuum, rocking chair, and Thing Two.  All free.  It’s a great deal, don’t delay.
Hazel: Don’t delay, readers! Thanks so much, Cat Food Breath. You’re the best!
Cat Food Breath: I know I’m the best.  Duh.
And thank YOU readers for reading!
Until next time! Stay tuned for a Spanish-language Caturday Intermew edition with Morris: el CandiGato!
